Through The Lens Thursday #37: Black

posted in: Photography, Through The Lens Thursday 18 comments

Through The Lens Thursday is a one-year photography project, where every week, my project partner, Greta of GFunkified and I, will post a picture (or pictures) we have taken based on a prompt. Our hope is that together, we can teach and learn from each other, stay accountable to our goal of improving our skills, and hopefully, be taking some gorgeous photographs.

A photography project

This week’s prompt is ‘Black’.

Black-camer

My camera took a selfie!

I know, I’m stretching the prompts slightly. 37 weeks of taking pictures based on prompts, especially when you don’t go out much, has proved to be… challenging. I have to dig deep for creative inspiration.

Which means the next couple of weeks is going to be interesting. Because, ‘tall’ and ‘away’ don’t exactly mean anything in photographic terms, right? Give me some ideas. Tall person? Tall building? Tall tree? Fling a balloon in the air and ‘away’ it goes? A picture of my kids walking out the door? Help. Oh, then there’s ‘deception’. WHAT WAS I THINKING WHEN COMING UP WITH PROMPTS? (or should I conveniently blame Greta?)

Speaking of photography, I’m thinking of reviving the 30 Days of Self-Portraits project I did on my Facebook page last year, as my postpartum project. You know, on top of this one, and looking after four children, and blogging, and taking showers, and whatnot. WHY NOT? Whaddya think?

Next week’s prompt: Tall

For the full list of prompts, check out my Through The Lens Thursday page. If you’d like to join Greta and I, but not necessarily blog your picture, join our Flickr group, where we upload our photos, and give comments, or helpful critique on each other’s photographs.

Parents of young kids, I shared three awesome printable charts for young kids at Everyday Family! If you need help with chores, bedtime and potty training, you need to grab these now!

Bahaha! I’m pretty sure you came up with those. πŸ˜‰ I like this shot a lot! Kind of mysterious….

Love your camera selfie and not going to lie was smiling seeing the Canon name, because we are a Canon family, because Kevin works for Canon doing all the online store banners and graphics for them. So, since Canon pays the bills here, I can’t help, but be a bit prejudice to them πŸ˜‰

I’ve always been a Canon girl! My last 3 cameras have been Canon. Love it.

So just an idea for tall — everything from a child’s perspective seems tall, sooo…

Might be a good way to experiment with lenses to get a really good effect.

And incidentally, I think you camera selfie was a pretty cool!

Ooh that’s a good idea! I only have two lenses – the other is a 50mm. But yes, a different lens perspective might work! And thank you.

This looks like an ad for Canon. I love it!

Note to self: Call Canon. πŸ™‚

Sometimes, it’s hard to come up with something for a prompt and I often find myself searching, searching, searching and then it pops out right in front of me. Lately, I haven’t felt very inspired and haven’t managed to come up with much in regards to photo a day…
I bet, doing a self-portrait challenge for 30 days after the babies arrive would be really interesting and give a glimpse into life as a mother of newborns…

I find it hard to do photo a day too! Which is why I’ve had approximately 3 failed attempts at it πŸ™‚ Weekly prompts are MUCH easier.
Yes, I think the 30-day self-portrait postpartum would be really interesting!

And your camera didn’t even make the duck face in its selfie!! Is that your kit lens? It looks so delightful.
Tall. I don’t know I’d do. I could lay in the grass and take a photo of Cassidy but it would be up his nostrils. Or I could stand on a ladder looking down and pretend I’m tall.

My camera’s dignified, hah! Yes, that is the standard kit lens. I’ve been toying with the idea of getting different lenses just to change up how I take pictures, but haven’t narrowed down anything, because I’m indecisive. HELP!
Pretending to be tall is a great idea! Too bad being pregnant means I can’t climb up anywhere high. Sigh.

actually, a camera selfie is brilliant for this prompt!! OMG – I wish I had thought of this one. And I like how the camera is framed in the picture – off to the side with some negative space on the other. makes the “black” stand out perfectly.

hmmmm… tall? do you keep a growth chart for your kids? we actually have a wall that we’ve measured all the kids height over the years. that would be a great shot. My hubby is over 6 feet – I’d let you borrow him, but we’re kinda far away. LOL

Yes, I was aiming for the negative space to give more prominence to the ‘black’ – thank you!
No, no growth chart. I have no idea why not.
Hah, thanks for the hubby offer. πŸ™‚

Cool, a camera that takes it’s own selfie.
    Now, that’s an interesting concept!
