CONGRATULATIONS TO JEN OF RUNNER MOM WHO LINKED UP THIS BEAUTIFUL POST! YOU’RE THE WINNER OF A SIGNAZON PRODUCT OF YOUR CHOICE. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR LINKING UP. JOIN US NEXT MONTH ON NOVEMBER 12!
I understand that bloggers can write whatever they choose in their own blog. It is their space after all.
In fact, I champion it.
But are there things that shouldn’t be written?
Especially about your children?
I share here about the hard and the easy of motherhood. Inevitably, those stories involve my children, the people whom I’m mothering.
No matter what I write though, I do my best to respect my children as people.
One day, they will read my words.
I want them to know that I’m proud of them, that I love them.
I would not want them to think that their mother embarrassed them, that at any point, I was ashamed of their actions (or of mine).
This blog here is to honor them.
I understand that bloggers who have written about ‘baby shaming’ and ‘mom shaming’ are doing it in good humor.
“It’s meant to be funny, people! Don’t take it so seriously!”
But anything to do with children, I take damn well seriously.
So today, inspired by my friend and special guest co-host of Memories Captured October, Tracy of Sellabit Mum and her post, Strive For The Happy, Galit and I are happy to be introducing the Baby/ Kid Honoring Edition of Memories Captured.
Tracy, Galit and I would love to see how YOU honor your children this month. Capture a memory of how your children does you proud daily. And of course you are free to link up any beloved memory this month too.
Link up from October 15 to 19 (linky closes at 9pm Eastern)! Please do include a Memories Captured button and/ or link back to any of the hosting blogs.
Do take the time to visit the linker above and/ or below you!
Galit , Tracy and I will be giving away a Signazon product of your choice in this month’s Memories Captured! Signazon offers decals, window decals, yard signs, car magnet signs, and congratulations banners, so link up now and make one of these, yours!

Standing-ovation-lapping for your awesome, and ohmygoodness all of that CUTENESS!!
So proud to cohost all of this goodness with you and Tracy! xo

Hee! You’re the best. So is Tracy. I have the bestest friends and co-hosts. Love you both to pieces. xo
I absolutely adore the kid/baby honoring edition of Memories Captured. The three of you are amazing. Truly.

I love it too. It’s really what we do every month, isn’t it? Except Tracy put it into words and into an idea, brilliant lady.
And thank you.
So sweet. I agree. I would never want my children to be embarrassed by the things I write. They both make me so happy and proud everyday. I love this idea!

Thank you Barbara!
Oh be still my heart! That pictutre just oozes cuteness. Love it! This sounds like so much fun, Alison. I think I’ll join in the fun very soon

What a FANTASTIC idea!
I LOVE it! Just linked up because this is a Memories Captured not to be missed!

Love that you love this idea. Thanks for linking up!
Hooray for positivity!

Hooray, indeed!
I LOVE this! Unfortunately, however, I had not yet read this post before I linked up my own and am afraid it doesn’t quite fit with this month’s theme since it’s more about capturing memories of my mom (albeit FOR my daughter, but still…). So, feel free to delete.
In the meantime, I completely agree with you. I consider myself someone who has a pretty wicked, even demented sense of humor, but I just can’t quite get on board with the whole baby-shaming thing. It just seems a bit too exploitative, even if it is only done in harmless fun.

P.S. I want to nom on Scrumplet’s cheeks. Baby smiles in the morning are the BEST way to start the day!
Kristin recently wrote…Conversations With My Mother
No worries at all! The theme is just a suggestion
I’m glad you are onboard with the baby honoring thing!
LOVE this! I already did my Memories Captured but I am going to do this sometime later in the month (and will absolutely credit the three of you for the idea!) xo

He IS so big already!
I do share the vulnerable stuff about my kids (like when they cry), but I hope that when they’re older they’ll find it funny. And I know there will soon come a time when it’s no longer appropriate.

Crying is totally not the same as shaming
Awesome, you three genius ladies

You know what? He truly is. Happy. And he makes all of us happy.
What a beautiful way to phrase it – honoring our children through our writing. Love it, and I couldn’t agree more. I’ll be linking up here on Wednesday.

Thank you Melissa. Can’t wait to read your post!
Love it! I’ll get on it.
Wonderful! Can’t wait to read!
What a wonderful idea! This is something I think about a lot. I always try to respect my children and think of how my actions and words may impact them – in every way, including my blog.
I had already written my Memories Captured post before knowing the theme. But I hope that the one I prepared honours my children and shows the pride that I feel in being their mom.
Kim recently wrote…They Are Brothers
Kim, you honor your children every post you write about them. And I mean that. Thank you for linking up!
This is lovely! I don’t share pictures of my kids (I keep their identities a secret) but I do love your idea!
Thank you so much!
Love this picture! And the idea behind it- why would anyone want to shame their kids? This is so much better.
Oh this is SO much better, absolutely.
Oh I love this! And Scrumplet is so cute!

So true Alison.
Blog isn’t just a blog, it is the mirror of what we are and what we do in life. It’s about preserving memories, like the happy moments we had with our little ones and loved ones.
I really love this post Alison. I salute you!

Thank you for your lovely post!
I’m totally with you on self-censoring for the kids’ sake. While I try to let people in and show the personal side of life, I also want the kids to appreciate what’s been put out there about them. Who knows what the end result will be! Can’t wait to link up tomorrow!

Oh, my gosh! What a “feel good” face–and by that I mean that face makes me feel good! Too sweet!

Thank you Maya!
What a great idea. I think this is much better than baby shaming. Some times it’s easy to get wrapped up in the hard stuff of motherhood that you forget to honor those precious moments.
Julia recently wrote…I’m not a housewife
Yes, exactly! And they grow up so quickly, I want to capture as much of the good stuff as possible!
awww. dang. I wish I hadn’t been sick this week! I would have LOVED to do this! Maybe I will anyway, even though I can’t link up
Do it, yes! Would love to see if (even if you can’t link up).
Love this! Those baby shaming posts are just not my thing. The dog ones crack me up though.
