Some of the most beautiful photography I have ever come across, is on blogs, taken by bloggers. Some are photographers by profession, many are just like me, budding amateurs who have always had a love for it, but did not really take it seriously until we started blogging.
I have had my ‘big girl’ camera for a while now, and I like to think that my pictures are much better than they were before I started blogging. Shooting in manual mode, learning the jargon of ISO, aperture, shutter speed, white balance and metering, navigating the world of editing – although I have learned a lot, there is still so much more.
Due to the easy nature of taking pictures with our phones (and the lure of shiny Instagram!), it is easy to choose not to grab the camera, and fiddle with settings. However, as with many things, practice makes perfect in photography.
In 2014, I wanted to be better at photography. I wanted to pick up my camera and shoot. I wanted to shoot in RAW. I wanted to learn everything about editing. And so did my friend, Greta who writes at GFunkified.
Together, we conceived the idea of a one-year photography project, Through The Lens Thursday. Once a week (yes, on Thursday), we post a picture (or pictures) we have taken based on a prompt. Our hope is that together, we can teach and learn from each other, stay accountable to our goal of improving our skills, and hopefully, be taking some gorgeous photographs.
We enjoyed our year of photography so much, we are doing it again in 2015! Below are our new prompts, do join us!
If you’d like to post your own picture on your blog, or social media, based on our weekly prompt, please do and let us know about it, we will definitely want to check it out! #ThroughTheLensThursday
You don’t need a blog to join us! Join our Flickr group to post your weekly photos.
