This month, I’m choosing this gorgeous band: Be True. Be You. Be Kind (which I also have!).

My over-arching life mantra is simple: Be Kind. It is the easiest, and the hardest thing to do, especially when you’re having a hell of a time.

I was having a rough time back in September, when the twins were born, and I was living the NICU Mom life. It was hard enough to wake up in the morning, and remember that my babies were in hospital, that I had to pump more milk, then make the 20-minute drive to see them. It was harder to fall asleep at night, wondering how they were, and dreading middle-of-the-night phone calls.

I did wake up. I did drive there daily to see them, for two weeks. I did get sleep. I survived. They thrived. A lot of it had to do with people being kind to me.

I extended their kindness to my family, who needed me, and needed me to be kind to them too. Very often, the ones who receive the brunt of our rough days, are the people who love us the most, the ones we should be loving the most.

The Be True. Be You. Be Kind MantraBand was the first one I gifted myself, to remind me how lucky I am to be on the receiving end of kindness, and to always, always, choose to be kind.

(PS: Speaking of which, my dear friend Galit Breen has written a book all about kindness! Kindness Wins is now available for pre-sale on Kindle, and launches April 7. You can read all about her journey on how the book was born on BuzzFeed).

MantraBand has generously agreed to sponsor two Mantrabands – two of you lucky people will get one Be True. Be You. Be Kind. bracelet. Enter below from March 9 to 13, 2015, open worldwide

I love a day that starts with “Be Kind” and as hard as it to follow it through with every interaction I remind myself that this is how I want the world to treat my sons and treat me. KINDLY.

However, I love that band that says, “Be You”. I’m having a hard time doing that these days.

Important reminder to treat others and ourselves with kindness. Just repeating those two words, Be Kind, sometimes makes all the difference.

I understand being a NICU mum. I was one for a very long six weeks. I always dreaded those night time calls. I look back and think wow, I made it through and I still am. I love visiting your blog. Thanks for sharing again. 🙂 What a great mantra and a special reminder too. My current mantra is don’t hold back.

  • The importance of kindness not only towards others, but also towards oneself, should not be underestimated. For kindness brings happiness. And that is essential.

It’s been a week of kindness. I’ve been shown it and I’ve been giving it. It totally makes the world go round.
And having done that NICU round before, even for a week, kindness was what I most needed.
