Through The Lens Thursday: Sign

posted in: Photography, Through The Lens Thursday 24 comments

Through The Lens Thursday is a one-year photography project (now in its second year), where every week, my project partner, Greta of GFunkified and I, will post a picture (or pictures) we have taken based on a prompt. Our hope is that together, we can teach and learn from each other, stay accountable to our goal of improving our skills, and hopefully, be taking some gorgeous photographs.

A photography project

 This week’s prompt is Sign.

TTLT- Sign

I took this from my bedroom, in my 27th floor apartment.

I need to get out more. Or at least, lug my camera with me when I do.

In case you’re like, what sign? It’s that red and yellow one, the Shell logo. Yes, we live in an apartment overlooking a huge highway.

I’m jealous of you who have views of the beach. You, with the mountains. And you, with all those trees in front of you. I get a highway and buildings (okay, there are SOME trees right there).

So, before I took this photo, I was, oh shit, I haven’t taken any photos for this week’s prompt! I was going to cheat and find something from before, but all my photos are on the MacBook Air I no longer use. Which reminds me, I need to retrieve the thousands of photos there before the laptop really crashes. It doesn’t work so well anymore. Ack.

I digress. Sorry, I’m all over the place this week. I just had a post at Mamalode published, and I exhaled when it did. It was a tough piece about my mother. Have you read it?

I also have my final piece published on Everyday Family, where I share 5 tips to photograph newborns. Yes, the twins are featured! I had to quit my writing position there, my first paid writing gig, because I just can’t manage the weekly posts anymore. Four kids and all that. Sigh. Would you head over and read it? Thank you.

Next week’s prompt is Table.

For the full list of prompts, check out my Through The Lens Thursday page. If you’d like to join Greta and I, but not necessarily blog your picture, join our Flickr group, where we upload our photos, and give comments, or helpful critique on each other’s photographs.

I love it. Everything about it is REAL. The fact that you see it everyday, that you had no time to take the photo and the wishing for a different view. It’s everything it should be and πŸ™ about Everyday Family but I’ll be reading both posts…

I guess I don’t ‘see’ what others see, because it’s my daily view, so I don’t appreciate it the same way. πŸ™‚

I love that my eye goes right to that sign, and I love getting little glimpses of the world you see around you!

I really like the huge gas station signs! Of course everything is bigger here in the USA compared to my native UK, and even though I have lived here for over 10 years, I still gaze up at the darn signs!
You are a long way up!
I liked your Mamalode piece, I think it was brave of you to be so honest about your own mother.

Yes, we are a long way up and we’re not even on the top floor! πŸ™‚
Thank you for reading my Mamalode piece.

since I am Queen of the photography over reach today, I say that’s a sign and it totally counts! LOL
And while I may live in a semi rural/suburb area with plenty of green, (seriously, I have houses all around me, but there is a park to one side and a field of cows just one street behind me) if I look at my bedroom window? Surprise – my back neighbours bedroom window!! And deck. Blah, suburbs aren’t all that swell either. I’d love more green space between me and people.
I mean, I like people and I am delightful – I swear it! – but these neighbours are CLOSE.

It’s pretty cool! Though apartment living is so common here, I guess we don’t really think about how awesome it is.

Thank you for your honesty and all-over-the-place-ness! And leaving your first paid writing gig probably doesn’t feel so great, but you recognized what you were able to give and what you weren’t, and I think that’s awesome.

You mean ME with the trees, right?
Sometimes they block the sun! For like four months of the year.

I’m still thinking about how you live on the 27th floor. So high up! Have you gotten those pictures off your computer yet? My computer crashed this summer and I lost about two years of pictures, so if you haven’t done it yet, DO IT!

Off to read your Mamalode piece.

(I think you’re doing amazing with writing and twins and life, btw)
