Through The Lens Thursday #46: Shine

posted in: NaBloPoMo, Photography, Through The Lens Thursday 30 comments

Through The Lens Thursday is a one-year photography project, where every week, my project partner, Greta of GFunkified and I, will post a picture (or pictures) we have taken based on a prompt. Our hope is that together, we can teach and learn from each other, stay accountable to our goal of improving our skills, and hopefully, be taking some gorgeous photographs.

A photography project

This week’s prompt is ‘Shine’.

Shine

I had fun with this one. I shot this at night in my living room, and love the effect. No, the room isn’t really in complete darkness. This is why I love photography. It’s like magic.

Next week’s prompt: Gloom

For the full list of prompts, check out my Through The Lens Thursday page. If you’d like to join Greta and I, but not necessarily blog your picture, join our Flickr group, where we upload our photos, and give comments, or helpful critique on each other’s photographs.

Oh, nice! Is that a lamp?

    • November 13, 2014 Alison

Thank you! It’s a ceiling lamp!

When I first looked I thought it was the moon! It looks like one of those inside the ceiling lights.

Love the concept of bettering yourself and your photography together.

You’re right, it is one of four ceiling lights! We only have 2 bulbs that work though so I focused on getting just one of them in shot. Photographed while sitting at my desk in pajamas, with a baby on my lap. πŸ™‚

I thought this was the moon. I love messing about with new techniques, I just wish my brain could figure them out! Yay for TTLT during NaBloPoMo, at least I know what to post on a Thursday!

I just played around with the settings and snapped a lot of pictures. I had no idea what effect I wanted to achieve, I was just trying things out. This was a happy accident!

      Yes, indeed!

Yes, it does look like magic. I have tried to capture stuff in my backyard during dusk and it was just black… which I found rather annoying and deleted the pictures, but I should have taken a closer look… That’s why I’m not a photographer, lol πŸ™‚

Heh. It’s all in the settings. It’s too hard to explain because I’m also not a photographer. πŸ™‚

I thought it was the moon at first, too! Reminds me of the pictures I was trying to take during the “blood moon” eclipse.

I can’t wait to see what you’ll do with “gloom.” And so cool to have shine and then gloom.
    I like your perspective!

I look at photography as magic too. I miss the days of spending all day in the darkroom watching images magically appear. That was pure magic!

I do love that photo. The room must have been at least a little dark, right? It’s been awfully gloomy here. Maybe I can get something.

  • November 19, 2014 Kim

Ooh. Cool. I skimmed the first couple of comments to see what kind of light is was. πŸ™‚
My first thought was that it was in a room, but then I thought it could be a street light too.
