Blogging Daily, Thanks NaBloPoMo

posted in: Blogging, NaBloPoMo 54 comments

I have failed to post photos for Through The Lens Thursday for six weeks in a row, came back, then failed again this week. In my defense, one of the twins had bronchiolitis and had to be hospitalised for over 24 hours.

So of course I AM INSANE because on a whim, I’ve decided to sign up to try NaBloPoMo (I can’t ever remember the name, and typed that wrong three times) – National Blog Posting Month! It’s a commitment to blog daily. I’ve barely managed to blog twice a week, what makes me think I can do it every day?

BlogHer’s daily prompts should help, and I can get away with posting photos. So why I am doing this?

For one, it’s to get into the habit of actually writing those posts I am constantly writing in my head, because I get distracted by all the shiny social media when I’m on the computer. I tend to write some of my favorite stuff when I just write, and not think too hard and long about it, so I’m hoping there will be some gems this month. It’s also a great way to recommit to my own photography project.

I’m starting this challenge on my first day of solo parenting too!

Will the insanity end?

NaBloPoMo November 2014

Would you blog daily? Am I crazy?

I’m trying it, too! I will be the one wandering around on December 1 with unwashed hair and unable to remember if I made dinner yet that day…

Yay! I am so happy you are doing NaBloPoMo too. I did it last year and thought I would give it a go this year too. I am thinking of creating a theme for myself, or I might just see where it takes me as the month goes on. Of course Thursday’s are taken!!

Yay, fellow daily blogger! I am just going to go with whatever comes to mind, no theme. I know myself, if I get too into the theme, I just get stressed, then drop out altogether. Good luck to you!

I’m just as insane as you! I decided to sign up, despite that fact that this is probably going to be the busiest month for my jewelry business, but it’s something I’ve wanted to try for awhile. Good luck with, can’t wait to see what you post. And hope your little one is feeling better πŸ™

God bless you Alison for starting this while your husband is away. I used to blog daily but even I can’t keep up and my husband is home in the evenings and weekends from work. So my hat is off to you on this totally πŸ™‚

While I find it fascinating, I can’t commit to blogging daily for a month… even though I’m itching to do so…. But I am fully committed to reading your blog every day! I’m sure there will be gems πŸ˜€ xox

The busier I a the more I get done…or at least that is what I tell myself. So yes I was suckered in for another NaBloPoMo! Hope those babies are better now! My daughter had it when she was about 3 months old.

I read somewhere that I just need to dedicate a fixed amount of time a day to do whatever it is I need to do, and I can pull an hour out somewhere to write and post, so that’s what I’m going with for now. Good luck to you!

I signed up, too! What was I thinking? Since I started the business I’ve neglected the blog. But I miss it. So, here goes nothing! I’ll check in with you πŸ™‚

I’m giving NaBloPoMo the good ol’ college try, too. I homeschool our 4 kids (well, the baby is 1 so he’s mostly along for the ride) and we’re moving in eight days. aaaah. Breathe deep and post pictures if needed, right? I found you on BlogHer and look forward to reading more throughout the month. Happy writing!

I wouldn’t blog daily but it depends on the genre of blogging you’re in – for my particular type of writing it’s not suitable. I think you’re crazy but sometimes a little crazy can be quite fun and can lead to great things. πŸ™‚ So go for it and hope you succeed! It’s a good challenge! Surely all of the craziness of daily life will need an outlet. It will keep you tied to this wonderful place.
So glad to hear your little one is doing better. Respiratory virus season really sucks with newborns!

I think that’s why I’m doing it – I have been feeling so detached from this space, and I really need to not be.

  • November 3, 2014 Rorybore

I think I almost blog every day already. at least 5 times per week. but if you count my Tumblr blog, I post almost hourly. LOL
But I don’t officially participate in these – I find it stifles my creativity a bit. I did a poetry one a couple of years ago, and all my writing felt so forced – I didn’t like the pressure.

so basically… um, yeah, I guess I am a lazy, fly by the seat of your pants kinda writer.
but I do love and get inspired from everyone else writing every day.
Rorybore recently wrote…Happy Halloween 2014My Profile

    • November 3, 2014 Alison

I’m a fly by my seat kinda writer too, which is why I have no topics or themes planned out ahead. I’m just going to write. I find that the obligation to post daily has actually made me focus on writing, something I haven’t been doing for a while, because I keep distracting myself with other things.

  • November 3, 2014 cindy

hi! i’ve also decided to take the plunge and commitment of blogging daily through NaBloPoMo. i admire that you’re attempting this challenge with your four little ones. i’m freaking out how i’m going to do this and all my kids are grown! it helps to know there are others in the same boat. good luck!

If you can’t be insane with your fellow bloggers, where can you be insane, really?

I’m doing NaBloPoMo this year, too. Last year was my first (successful) go at it, and it was really rewarding. I’m hoping this year will be equally as good, even though my life is crazier than ever right now.

I’m getting my blogging ‘stuff’ together this month. I’m having my first bloggaversary, I actually have a goal of posting every 5 days or so, figuring out Photo Shop, I have finally made a to-do checklist now I need to make a good daily list also, and I have this crazy novel in my head that will come out one way or the other. So, no on the everyday, but I am getting more excited and encouraged clicking around your blog. Have a good November!!!

Blogging daily (I can’t remember the order of NaMoGaNoBloDoPoMo either) is something that I would totally do… if I didn’t miss the first week of it every single year. And wait a minute – they give you writing prompts? Finding something to write about is, to me, 90% of the work of writing.

They do give prompts! Though to be honest, I haven’t really gotten much inspiration from those yet. Try it next year! Maybe?
