Through The Lens Thursday is a one-year photography project, where every week, my project partner, Greta of GFunkified and I, will post a picture (or pictures) we have taken based on a prompt. Our hope is that together, we can teach and learn from each other, stay accountable to our goal of improving our skills, and hopefully, be taking some gorgeous photographs.
This week’s prompt is ‘Lemon’.
Before I get into the photo for the week, I have to tell you that this is going to be a randomy type post. Because I’m posting this on my Friday when it’s supposed to be a weekly Thursday post. I am also posting an old photo which defeats the purpose of ‘improving my photography weekly’ (though I did take these pictures during a photography course last year). I will also be throwing in many thoughts that are running through my muddled mind right now.
You may be wondering how I happen to have photographs of lemons. If you know me sorta well, you will know I am obsessed with all things lemon (also, coconut, but that’s another post). I make lemon curd, lemon cupcakes, lemon bread, LEMON. So. During my photography course this time last year, one assignment was food photography. Hence, allthingslemon.
I was sick yesterday. At first, I panicked and thought it was pre-term labour, because isn’t that what you do, jump to the worse conclusion ever? I had aches and pains everywhere. I felt nauseated. I was running to the bathroom a lot. Being upright was not an option. I was sleeping a lot. I couldn’t eat anything but a bowl of soup at 6.00pm. Turns out, it was a mild case of food poisoning. The babies are still happy to stay inside, thank goodness. Because 30 weeks is still too soon (even though I look gigantic!). Hence, the late post and lack of new photos.
Robin Williams died on Monday. My social media feed was inundated with tributes, posts about depression and suicide, and some were filled with hate and vitriol, which is disgusting and disappointing. I decided to share posts about how you can help someone with depression instead, and watched countless videos of Robin Williams doing stand up, appearing as a talk show guest, and the many lovely tributes to the man he was. Down with the negativity. Let his family mourn in peace. Haters be gone.
I watched a podcast recently about growing your Facebook page organically. The expert posts up to 26 times a day on her page. TWENTY SIX times. I guess you a) need a blog about things everyone loves e.g. food, or kids-centred stuff instead of a generic personal blog (which mine is) and b) you have a team of people curating and creating content, then posting them on Facebook, round the clock. I don’t have a team. It’s just me. Question: if you already liked my Facebook page, would you unlike it or hide my posts if I post more than two to three times a day? Because I think I might annoy myself.
I haven’t been doing any blog evaluations at all (under Little Love Media), and that is intentional. Yes, I am slowly backing out of that side of my business, and focusing on book blog tours for self-published or first-time authors instead. I find it more interesting and rejuvenating.
I am now 4 weeks behind responding to comments, and returning blog visits. I am SO very sorry. I swear I’m going to try and catch up. Eventually.
Here, have a lemon.
(What do you think of these ‘lemon’ photos? This is a photography exercise, so any critique is appreciated and welcomed!)
Next week’s prompt: Green For the full list of prompts, check out my Through The Lens Thursday page. If you’d like to join Greta and I, but not necessarily blog your picture, join our Flickr group, where we upload our photos, and give comments, or helpful critique on each other’s photographs.
