Through The Lens Thursday #30: Stairs

Through The Lens Thursday is a one-year photography project, where every week, my project partner, Greta of GFunkified and I, will post a picture (or pictures) we have taken based on a prompt. Our hope is that together, we can teach and learn from each other, stay accountable to our goal of improving our skills, and hopefully, be taking some gorgeous photographs.

A photography project

This week’s prompt is ‘Stairs’.

Stairs - Normandy 1

I cheated. I didn’t take this picture this week. It was a picture taken in February, when we were in Normandy, France. This is one of many stairs leading up to the abbey at Mont St. Michel, a trek I took solo while my husband took care of the kids.

Parenting solo, I just haven’t had the energy or time to go out and look for some inspiring stairs (is there such a thing?). I’m actually scrambling to write and post this because I have to go pick the boys up from preschool soon.

But look! More stairs.

Stairs - Normandy 2

I miss France. I miss my husband. I miss my strong legs and body that made its way up so many steps in France (and many streets, shops and trails).

I miss whipping out the camera and snapping away.

I am missing BlogHer 2014 that’s happening right now in San Jose, California too. I really thought that I would make it out to a conference in the US this year (that was before we’d decided to have more kids – hah, Universe is laughing at me right now). Maybe 2016? Want to make a date with me? Will I even be blogging then?

So many questions. So little time. Rambling. Gotta run.

(What do you think of these ‘stairs’ photos? This is a photography exercise, so any critique is appreciated and welcomed!)

Next week’s prompt: Looking Up

For the full list of prompts, check out my Through The Lens Thursday page. If you’d like to join Greta and I, but not necessarily blog your picture, join our Flickr group, where we upload our photos, and give comments, or helpful critique on each other’s photographs.

I’m missing Blogher 14 too and I swore this would be my year to go. But San Jose is far for me, so maybe I’ll see you in 2016.

If you are still (and I am truly hoping you are) still blogging, I will totally make a date for the next BlogHer with you, as long as it is on the East Coast and not too far off from my gang. I also couldn’t justify being on the opposite coast being away from my husband and kids right now, but truly hoping that the next one would be in NYC or at least within in driving/train distance for me. Oh and the stairs has me dreaming of getting away too right now.

Looking at the pictures again, and oh my lord, France! Sigh.
I hope I’ll still be blogging in 2 years too. I will have 4 kids soon, so there should be plenty of blog fodder, yes?

I had wanted to make it out to BlogHer too since I have family in SF but the best laid plans…

Those stairs are beautiful! So is the backdrop. Wish I could be in France right now!

I have family in SF too! But the US is just so freaking far, sigh.

I wish I was at BlogHer, too. But San Jose seemed like quite a trek and it would have been my first conference, and I’ve been told it can be scary and overwhelming for first timers. I can’t wait to hear all about it though! And hang in there – I remember those feelings, but a year from now, you will once again be Super Woman!

I love your stairs pictures – I am all out of breath just looking at them. I will meet you at the next conference – once the kids have grown a little and we TRULY need a break from them! Hang in there – have a bowl of ice cream – or two.

THIS!! Exactly the kind of inspiring stairs I was looking for too. love, love, love. so much character. the exude history to me…. all kinds of stories of the feet that have trod upon them. And I love that they are natural: the stone photographs beautifully.

And I didn’t know “cheating” was if it was an older photo! oops on my part a few times I think too. I think we can all extend a little grace on that one though; since we are all busy moms AND photographers. πŸ™‚

I am fascinated with old architecture so I took several of steps all around France! The ones at Mont St. Michel are one of the most beautiful though.

And yes, it’s ‘cheating’ because each week, we’re supposed to learn something new from taking new photos. But yes, grace allowed! πŸ™‚

Oh. You make me wish I was in France. Even for just day!
And I think I like that 2nd photo better because it looks quite enchanting with that castle-looking building at the top! So mysterious – reminds of Jane Eyre (even though that was in England…) πŸ˜‰

I so very much wanted to get to BlogHer this year, too. Maybe we can make a date for 2016. You have so many exciting things happening in your life right now; it’s only natural that you’ll have to say no to some obligations.
