Through The Lens Thursday #23: Sunset

posted in: Photography, Through The Lens Thursday 30 comments

Through The Lens Thursday is a one-year photography project, where every week, my project partner, Greta of GFunkified and I, will post a picture (or pictures) we have taken based on a prompt. Our hope is that together, we can teach and learn from each other, stay accountable to our goal of improving our skills, and hopefully, be taking some gorgeous photographs.

A photography project

This week’s prompt is ‘Sunset’.

Sunset in Kuala Lumpur 1/30, f/22, ISO 6400

This photo nearly didn’t make it to the blog, because of course we decided on a prompt that needs to be photographed at a specific time. Of course unset is around the time we get the boys ready for bed, so day after day, I miss sunset. I considered cheating and posting an old photo, call it Throwback Thursday and be done with it. That totally defeats the entire project of course.

So today (my Thursday evening, your morning), I looked out the window, spotted the right moment, grabbed my camera, ran out to the balcony, quickly adjusted a few settings and snapped. They aren’t perfect. But that’s the thing about sunsets and nature. You don’t need to make it beautiful, it just is.

This week has been crazy. Good crazy. And I can’t wait to tell you all about it next week, once I’ve taken a breath, eaten some ice cream, and taken a nap. How was your week?

(What do you think of this ‘sunset’ photo? This is a photography exercise, so any critique is appreciated and welcomed!)

Next week’s prompt: Deep

For the full list of prompts, check out my Through The Lens Thursday page. If you’d like to join Greta and I, but not necessarily blog your picture, join our Flickr group, where we upload our photos, and give comments, or helpful critique on each other’s photographs.

Why are sunsets just always so beautiful? Even if it’s not a “perfect” photo. It’s a moment, and it’s beautiful.

Have some good ice cream! Someone once told me she was a terrible photographer of everything but sunsets, but God does all the work with those. I thought, “Well you do a little work too, you know!”
    Team effort.

I love pictures of sunsets. I’ll bet you get gorgeous ones in Malaysia too! (That you miss most of the time bc of the kids).

Absolutely beautiful and must say the sunsets during this time of the year specifically are always just magnificent and amazing. Glad you got to capture this and trust me I know all about the crazy week and now I also have a bit of a crazy weekend ahead with a bridal shower, wedding (not the same couple) and the end of spring soccer, too. Wishing you a great weekend now, as well 🙂

That picture is beautiful. I just realized that I haven’t seen a sunset in a really long time. It’s easy to miss one here in NYC. I need to pay more attention to nature, I think.

And, can’t wait to hear the crazy good news!

I love it! I think sunsets over cities are so cool. I am yet to capture my sunset because we have so many trees in the way that if I don’t get it at JUST the right time, I lose.

love the wispy clouds, the sunset colours and that you got the city lights also!
Night shots are so hard. When I tried to take mine too late, they were grainy — but I have the same dilemna: it’s bedtime for kiddos. Luckily hubby was on day shift so I was able to dash outside and get an earlier shot.

Yes, the graininess. Mine is because of the high ISO, because it was almost not sunset anymore, lol.
