Through The Lens Thursday is a one-year photography project, where every week, my project partner, Greta of GFunkified and I, will post a picture (or pictures) we have taken based on a prompt. Our hope is that together, we can teach and learn from each other, stay accountable to our goal of improving our skills, and hopefully, be taking some gorgeous photographs.
This week’s prompt is “Dream”.
1/100, f/5.6, ISO 6400 (I’m not entirely happy with the graininess of the picture thanks to the high ISO, but the lighting in my house is terrible)
Two years ago today, one of our dreams came true. You. You were finally here, the long-awaited, very-much-wanted child.
You are two. I can hardly say that without wanting to burst into tears, because how can you already be two? Time has really pulled one over me. I look at your baby pictures, and can barely remember that you used to be so tiny, so helpless. Because here you are, walking, running, climbing, jumping, talking in sentences, making your demands and feelings known.
You are a burst of sunshine in our lives, my love. Where do I start to tell you all that I love about you?
Your brown, wavy, crazy hair. I just can’t help running my fingers through it, and I’m sorry, I can’t bear to give you a haircut.
Your expressive eyes, and you know just when to turn on the charm, and everyone’s putty in your hands.
Your smile, your very big, genuine, happy smile.
Your independence. How you want to do everything on your own, including choosing what you wear, and putting them on yourself. It makes for a very long drawn-out affair, but it’s my job to let you try.
Your friendliness. How you wave at everyone and say hi.
Your ability to laugh at anything.
Your affection. How you see someone’s lap, and can’t resist backing into it, and making yourself comfortable. How you fling your arms around my neck and hold on tight. How you kiss us happily.
Your fearlessness. This trait gives me minor heart attacks every. time. But it is YOU.
Your adaptability. We’ve hauled you across planes, trains, buses, cars, through miles and miles, and though yes, you cry a little in the beginning, your natural curiosity and adaptability always turns things around.
Your current obsession with anything with wheels. I love that you take the truck Auntie Jennie gave you, everywhere, including to bed. I love that you wheel your buses, trucks, and cars around the house, with full sound effects. I love that you point out allthevehicles while we’re in the car.
1/100, f/5.6, ISO 1600
Your love for your big brother. Despite the occasional fighting, you love him. You copy everything he does, you want to be where he is. My hope is that your relationship continues to deepen as you grow up.
Happy 2nd Birthday, my love. Mama loves you to the moon and back and beyond.
(What do you think of these ‘dream’ photos? This is a photography exercise, so any critique is appreciated and welcomed!)

Mother’s Day is on Sunday, May 11! I asked 5 women what Mother’s Day means to them now that they are mothers themselves. Check out what they had to say over at Everyday Family.
