Through The Lens Thursday #17: Water

posted in: Photography, Through The Lens Thursday 30 comments

Through The Lens Thursday is a one-year photography project, where every week, my project partner, Greta of GFunkified and I, will post a picture (or pictures) we have taken based on a prompt. Our hope is that together, we can teach and learn from each other, stay accountable to our goal of improving our skills, and hopefully, be taking some gorgeous photographs.

A photography project This week’s prompt is “Water”. Drops of water 1/100, f/2.2, ISO 400 What you should know about me, based on this picture. 1. Yes, I have my own blog mug! 2. Yes, I did spill that water accidentally. 3. Yes, I spill stuff as frequently as my kids do. 4. I have so much to learn about photo editing. This was edited in Lightroom, and I think I could have done a much better job. (What do you think of this ‘water’ photo? This is a photography exercise, so any critique is appreciated and welcomed!) Next week’s prompt: 3 Things

For the full list of prompts, check out my Through The Lens Thursday page. If you’d like to join Greta and I, but not necessarily blog your picture, join our Flickr group, where we upload our photos, and give comments, or helpful critique on each other’s photographs.

I need that mug. I don’t even drink coffee, but I must have it! And I spill things all the time. Just part of motherhood!

I created the mug at Zazzle! You should totally make your own blog mug!

I love that you have your own blog mug. I also love photographs of water but it can be so tricky to capture.

I’m still learning to use Lightroom in the way it should be used. It’s going to take a while!
You should totally get a blog mug, I created mine at Zazzle.

Your own mug! Love it. Oh, and I can be super clumsy too. My kids come by their messes honestly.

    • April 28, 2014 Alison

      Yes, mine too ๐Ÿ™‚
I think your blog header would be adorable on a mug.

  • April 25, 2014 Kerstin

I don’t know how else you could have done it, but I think it looks great – I love the focus on the water drops. And I love that you have your own blog mug! Your blog header is the best ever!

      I AM a putz!
I do like my blog mug. Maybe a bit too much.

I have my own blogging mug too – don’t feel bad. LOL

I really like how you framed it with the water drops on the table at the forefront – and I think you’ve said exactly the one thing: more light on the drops. Which is very tricky – I tried it too and at some point, they don’t really look like drops anymore. Dreaming of a macro lens for Christmas. HA!

I took so many shots, and so many of them just looked terrible, and the water didn’t look like water ๐Ÿ™‚

    Photo-editing mystifies me — pure & simple.

And we all have our own blog mugs, don’t we?

    I love your mug.
I also spill things frequently and probably as often as my children. Usually on myself.
I have a lot to learn about photography, but I am always amazed how much a photo can change with editing. It is something I didn’t know even a couple of years ago.

Editing does AMAZING things to what look like ordinary photographs! I still have so much to learn.

  • April 29, 2014 Katie

I also have my own blog’s mug…although it’s an out-dated design. And it’s small, so I drink out of my Genie in a Blog mug more often (shout out to Leigh Ann!).

And that photo sort of makes me want to slurp up that water. Is that weird? I guess I’m saying I like the photo.

I know NOTHING about photography (as we’ve established) but I see your soul in your work.
