Old School Blogging: The Marriage Edition

posted in: Husband, Link Up, Marriage 77 comments

Old School Blogging is back! Elaine and Heather had such a great time with this last month (as did all of us, including me, who missed the linkup by mere hours, oops), that they’re doing this again (thanks ladies, it sure helps with the writer’s block).

This month is all about marriage, babies and bliss. Here we go.

1. How did your husband pop the big question?

Well, whaddya know? I wrote about how we got engaged a while back. It involved a carrot and a cat. That’s not a euphemism. You have to read it to believe it.

2. What are the three most surprising things about married life?

One, little things do matter. Like, putting the dirty cup into the sink rather than on the counter tells me you listened when I nagged asked nicely. Two, how much work it is (as my wise friend Kristin says, love is a verb). Three, how well we’ve both adapted to it.

3. How did you find out you were pregnant for the first time?

I knew I was pregnant before I ‘found out’. I waited until I was a day late, bought a pregnancy test kit, and did the test that night. I saw the two lines, went to my husband (who did not know I was doing the test), and said, hey, we’re going to be parents! He looked at me and said, “Really? You’re sure?” Stick waved again, and he did some kind of weird shooting gesture with sound effects, and winked at me. True story.

4. How did you choose your first baby’s name?

We were at a bookstore, and I was flicking through a baby name book. I was 8 weeks pregnant, and just knew that it was a boy. We stopped at a random page, saw the name, and knew it would be our son’s name.

5. Describe where you see yourself 10 years from now…

Blogging about how the teenage/ tween years are killing me! <insert smiley face> <insert tears>

6. Describe how you find bliss either by using words or images.

Bliss can be found in the laughter of my children, in a hot cup of coffee, in the arms of my husband, in the writing that I do, in the anticipation of a cupcake (or ice cream), in the words of friends, in the feel of toes buried in the warm sand, in a clean house, in the pages of a book, and in the quiet of the night.

Now tag 5 of your bloggy friends!

I’d love to read about your engagement, marriage, babies and bliss – Alexa of No Holding Back, Alma of Alma Boheme, Kim of Too Darn Happy, Leslie of Pampers, Playdates & Parties and Tamara of Tamara Camera Blog! Anyone else who’d like to play, please do, let me know and link up with Elaine!

Under things that make you happy–a clean house–OH how I’m craving that at the moment as I sit typing with my back to a heap from a closet that’s been turned inside out. Your husband is so creative! For the carrot, I thought he was going to say that just because we have one silly week of fighting doesn’t mean we don’t have a relationship. And you can tell him the my husband learned (when searching for mine) that just under or just over a carat (sp?) is more likely to be perfect than spot on.

And I love all the rest. Love finding out more about you, all those little details that make up a person.
