Dear Future Friend

Friendship quote

Dear Future Blog Friend,

Thank you for taking the time, twice a week, to read my little essays about parenting, blogging and well, me. If you’re a commenter, I thank you with the love for a thousand cupcakes (and if you know me – which you will once you start reading the blog regularly – cupcakes are VERY important to me). I know, I shouldn’t judge how well a post is received by the number of comments received, but boy, is it a nice feeling when someone does have something to say. I hope you don’t mind the occasional photo, I like to dress up a post with something visual. You can’t very well not like pictures of cute children, yes?

Wait, don’t answer that.

So, Blog Friend, I hope we will get to know each other better. To the point where I will say “I love you,” and sign off all our correspondence with “xoxo”.

Love, Alison

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Future Facebook Friend,
I cannot promise I won’t unfriend you. I know, I can be an asshat that way. I like to keep my friend list small, as I share a lot more of my personal life there. By that token, I’m very selective with who I’m Facebook friends with. I have no problems with you sharing whatever you like, but if you vaguebook, call people names, or make unsavory comments on pictures of my children – I’m sorry, it’s buh-bye. I’m sure you understand.
Love, Alison
PS: I wouldn’t mind if you liked my blog’s Facebook page though. I’m much funnier there anyway.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Future Twitter Friend,

I may occasionally let fly the ‘F’ word. Don’t be alarmed.

Love, Alison

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Future Pinterest Friend,
I know I will love you because you love my dessert Boards.
Love, Alison
PS: Please don’t take it personally if I unfollow your health and fitness Boards, I am not against exercise or a healthy lifestyle, I’m just tired of seeing pictures of women with washboard abs.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Future Instagram Friend,

There will be many pictures of my children. It’s the only way I can capture anything with them, as they like to stop doing whatever cute thing they were doing, as soon as I whip out the big camera. Also, forgive my many caption typos. My phone hates me. I look forward to seeing your lovely pictures. But please, not too many of pets. Or snow.

Love, Alison

  1. xoxo Loved this post. I hope we are always ALL of these friends. (Forgive me for never being on Pinterest. It is a MAJOR timesuck for me. Also? Those skinny pictures make me sick because so often they are pro-ana. So I get it). xoxo

  2. I am a bit sad about the lack of comments I got last week. Comments really do make a blogger’s day.

    Pretty sure I follow you everywhere you listed.

    What do you have against pets and snow?
    just JENNIFER recently wrote…Weekend WhyMy Profile

    • Thanks for following everywhere!
      I have nothing against animals or the weather. Just a tad tired of seeing the same dogs curled up in the same place every single day. Also, snow pictures look the same after the 30th one. See the theme?

  3. This is genius. I love it. Commenting because I know how it feels to think you’ve written something brilliant and then have no one tell you how brilliant it is.

    Now double checking to make sure I follow you in all these places.

  4. LOL I unfriend FB people all the time. I also have a nasty habit of deleting my social media profiles. What can I say? I like a fresh start from time to time :-)

    • Can’t underestimate fresh starts! Though I’ll be loathe to rid the numbers I worked hard to build, so you’re very brave! (does not apply to my personal FB page though, I was quite happy to go from 600 friends to under 200)

      • Ah yes….I’m guilty of deleting somewhat established blogs. Gosh I’m a PITA to keep up with.
        PS – I also change phone numbers every few years. Apparently I don’t want to be found ;D

  5. I think my favourite social media platform is still Twitter – but I am liking FB more every day and I though I haven’t been on Instagram long, I love it, too. If I were to write a letter to my future Twitter friends, I would have to let them know about my tendency to tweet about coffee. I notice that I feel compelled to tweet about it often.

  11. Your full of amazing information have beautiful children and after reading some of your stuff your funny too! Working with the whole package here folks!! I could only be so lucky to get a few XOXO’s!

  12. What a fun post! I loved all of your examples (FB, twitter, etc.) Question for you— what are your thoughts about responding to blog comments. I usually respond to all of them, but I’m finding that harder and harder. If I have to choose between answering comments and visiting other people’s blogs and commenting on their posts, I always choose visiting other blogs. (Which I honestly think people appreciate more IF they had to pick.) Just curious on your thoughts on that whole issue as I know you’re someone is really good at doing both.
    Nina recently wrote…This is Five and My Final Twitter PostMy Profile

    • Thanks, Nina!
      I do think it’s important to respond to comments, as it acknowledges the commenter, keeps the conversation going, although not all comments warrant a response. In which case, visiting back would be the right thing to do. I do both, about 90% of the time. It does get hard. Sometimes I don’t get to comments until the end of the week, and I have 2 posts worth of comments to go through. But I love interacting with my readers, I feel that they deserve a response, and I do believe it’s part of the reason some people keep coming back. Well, I hope they do because of the writing too, of course. :)
      If you feel that visiting back and leaving a comment is more valuable, do that. Although that takes more time. :)

  13. man, you have made it mighty hard NOT to comment on this one. lol. =)

    You wanna know where I’m torn? And man, I wouldn’t mind your advice on this one: I’m running both my personal facebook page & my blog’s facebook page with a bit of an overlap of the same content…not being sure where to put what. Over the years, I was a bit of an fb hoe, friending any and everyone…I don’t know who half of them mugs are. Besides that problem, it can be a real pain to post everything twice. What’s your thoughts about this? Wondering do you advice folks to use their blog fb page a bit more?

    Okay, now to answer your question: I LOVE fb & instagram the best. I’m still really learning twitter, but I’m pretty sure we’re friends in all these places. =)
