Toca Boca!

This is a product review. I was provided the products purely for review, but was not otherwise compensated. All opinions are my own.

This giveaway is now closed.

I have admitted freely to allowing my son access to the iPad.

And yes, sometimes, it plays babysitter (don’t judge).

I love how he’s so competent with it, how he figures things out on it by himself, and how he’s actually learned words, numbers and dare I say, concepts from the various applications we choose for him.

There are so many apps out there, it’s mind boggling. So when I was approached by Toca Boca, I was thrilled. These guys describe themselves as a play studio (love!) who build products to help develop children’s imaginations, and there are no in-app purchases (any parent who’s had to deal with their kids inadvertently pressing ‘buy this app now’ knows what I’m talking about).

I was provided with three apps for the iPad – Toca Doctor, Birthday Party Playtime and Toca House.

My toddler (aged 2) LOVES all three games.

Birthday Party Playtime is a fun game where the kid chooses one of three birthday cakes, sets the table, chooses a present, and blows out the candles. He/ She then proceeds to serve and eat the cake, pour drinks, open the present and pop some confetti! Then (this is my favorite part), you put everything in the sink to wash up! Monkey claps his hands and cheers each time he finishes.

I tried playing Toca Doctor before Monkey did – and I actually enjoyed it. It lets kids play doctor for the day and I love how the app lets you solve puzzles and play mini games to ‘fix’ your patient. The cute sound effects and animations are awesome, and you can take the opportunity to teach your child about the human body too.  There are 21 games, so your child definitely won’t get bored.

Toca House was just fun, fun, fun. I’m also hoping Monkey picked up some tips on house chores (ahem). Your kid can help five characters mow the lawn, do laundry, mop the floor, sort groceries and so many more (19 games in all).

You know I’m not a review blogger. I would never endorse a product I don’t love, that my child doesn’t love.

Toca Boca however, gets my thumbs up. Their games are fun, educational, easy to play and they look simply awesome.

I loved these three apps so much, I actually purchased Toca Kitchen where you can cook and serve 4 hungry diners, ranging from a little girl to a cat. Yes, a cat.

So run out there, and get some Toca Boca apps – they have so many more fun games (Fancy building a robot? Throwing a tea party? Playing hair salon?)! I promise, totally worth it. Your kids will LOVE you.

Before you go though, you can try to win one of five promo codes that Toca Boca has generously offered to give my readers so that you can enjoy one of these apps I’ve reviewed here, absolutely free. Who said Friday the 13th is unlucky?

The giveaway rules are:

1. Mandatory entry: Leave a comment below to tell me which app you’d love  for your kid (or you, I won’t tell) to try. The Toca Boca apps are available for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.

2. Optional entry: Follow @TocaBoca on Twitter and leave a comment to say so.

3. The giveaway is open worldwide.

4. The giveaway will close on Monday, April 16 at 9.00pm Eastern Time.

5. Winners will be drawn via the ‘And The Winner Is’ plugin, and will be announced on Wednesday, April 18.

Good luck!

I love the idea of a game that teaches kids that chores or eloping out can be fun!! The kitchen app would be my absolute fab though because we are currently cooking with little man. (I don’t think that was one of the choices though… Hahah)

I had the iPad to myself for about 20 minutes the other day, couldn’t remember how to use it, went back to my iPhone. It now officially belongs to my toddler who discovered the Toca Boca apps last week. We’ve been building robots. Any app would be fine by him; he loves them. Thanks.
