Perth, 2009

posted in: Uncategorized 0 comments

The things we do for our blogs – I have never shown this picture to anyone. Ever. And here it is now, on the Internet. (Before this picture was taken, I had no idea my face was so…… bloated.)

On December 21, 2009, this is how I looked.

38 weeks 3 days pregnant with my first child.

We were in Perth, Western Australia.

The husband was out solo sailing on the lake and I was at a nearby cafe eating this.

Sticky date pudding with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. What? I was hugely pregnant.

After he was done sailing, he had a coffee on the bench while I sat, heavy, huge, and sweating next to him.

And then the black swans came.

Did you know they only live in Western Australia?

They’re beautiful.

They mate for life.

Even when one swims far away, they always come back to their mate. Always.

Just as we should.

8 days after this picture was taken, this little one was born.

Can you believe how fast time flies? (linking this to lovelinks #36)

Do you remember where you were on December 2009?

I’ll be taking a mini blogcation (word borrowed from Theta Mom!) for the rest of the week. MWT will be back next Tuesday, the 27th with a super duper Guest Star; on the 28th I will publish the letter I wrote to my son on his 1st birthday back when I didn’t have a blog, and on the 29th, it’d be his 2nd birthday. A video is in store. When I get round to finishing it (bad Mama). Happy Holidays!

I loved all three photos. It sounds like the perfect vacation: husband having fun sailing, mommy-to-be having fun eating. And now you get to do it all again. Such a good life.

    • December 21, 2011 Alison

Not so much a vacation – we were there to have the baby and it was a scorching summer in Australia. This time, we’re staying put in Malaysia 🙂

um, you were quite possibly one of the cutest pregnant women I’ve ever seen…
    my pictures would scare you…
and when I was preggers with Hope (#3) I was so big because she was so big that she sprained my uterus, true story. That child was 10 lbs 6 oz 2 1/2 weeks early…

  • You look amazing at 38 weeks pregnant! And to say your precious bug is a vision is to not do him justice. It’s amazing how these moments in our lives mark on our hearts. I love the story of the black swans and that they mate for life, as we should as well. If only it were just that easy right? As for where I was in December 2009, I do in fact remember all too clearly and that is ironically what I linked to! Have a great week off and enjoy your down time. Happy Birthday to your son! I know, it’s insane. #2 is getting the shaft – we’re staying put in Malaysia, but we’re still getting him his Australian citizenship. He’ll just have his birth certificate in a different language, haha!

It’s amazing how time flies! In looking at myself in pictures from both my pregnancies, it’s amazing to think how much your world can change with a baby, how, in pregnancy you think you have an idea of how things will be, but you don’t really know until you give birth.

That’s an awesome picture of you, by the way! I hated taking pictures of myself in my first pregnancy, but I regretted not having enough pictures once I gave birth. With my second pregnancy, I took so many pictures. And, I’m so thankful for them now!
