Why Two Is Better Than One

posted in: List of 10, Monkey My Son, Pregnancy 0 comments

Listicles, I’m playing again! Hi Stasha, long time no see!

Just Jennifer suggested we list 10 reasons why we should or should not have more kids.

As you know, we decided to go the way of more is more, when it comes to children!

With no disservice to my darling Monkey (y’all know I’m crazy mad for him), here’s my list of why we decided to give him a sibling.

1. I grew up with 3 siblings. Yes, there were times when we pummeled the hell out of each other, but I cannot imagine not having them. I cannot imagine not giving Monkey the gift of a sibling.

2. More fat cheeks to kiss, more little hands to hold, more I love yous, more smiles and laughter, more cuddles.

3. Cooking for 4 sounds easier than cooking for 3. I know, it doesn’t seem to make sense, but it will.

4. Monopoly, Scrabble, Settlers of Catan – board games are only fun when you have 4.

5. TWO kitchen helpers – yay!

6. Double fun in the pool. Double fun in the park. Double fun everywhere!

7. It is known that having siblings help children develop social skills like teamwork, empathy, sharing and the ability to comfort others.

8. Monkey will always have a playmate and a friend. And so will his sibling.

9. Siblings = unconditional love, support, friendship and understanding.

10. My arms and heart are meant to hold two children.

Sometimes being a brother is even better than being a superhero. – Marc Brown

Oh so sweet. Though my siblings and I had our ups and downs, I wouldn’t want to imagine not having them in my life. They are my heart. A sibling is a precious gift to give a child.

If that’s the only gift (other than the gift of life and love!) that I can give to the two of them, I will die a happy woman 🙂

You know, i never knew for sure if i wanted children, then i decided that i wanted four and my husband decided he didn’t want to have any. I guess 2 is the compromise btw 0 and 4 😉 Then he turned into the Dad of the decade and everyone said we should have had twelve – go figure!

Your list is awesome, my girfriend says she has two hands, can hold two kids and be in control … so two works!

#1 was our main reason that we knew we would always have at least two. We weren’t only children and grew up with all those fun sibling relationships, and wanted the same for our kids! And #8 and #9 – I’m so glad my girls have each other, and so far they’re wonderful to their baby brother. So much fun to see how they love each other!

My brother and sister are now my best friends and while yes, it did take us a while to get there, the journey has been worth it. I tell myself that when my two kids are whacking the living daylights out of one another “someday they will be friends, someday they will be friends…” (sort of like Dorothy, “there’s no place like home…there’s no place like home”) I just gotta believe it will all work out. It’s funny, I ALWAYS knew I’d have at least 2 children. It was a no brainer. But I DO remember looking at the first “professional” Sears Family Portrait that I had taken of my sons at ages 3 and 6 months and thinking “Wow, there’s an empty space in this photo…” and not just because the photographer sucked and didn’t center the image. That’s when I knew I wanted THREE.
