Today’s Guest Star, Carri of Mommy’s Little Monster Blake is funny, snarky, honest and can move you to tears. It’s no wonder her writing covers such a range of emotions – she’s simply awesome. And Blake, her son? Has the smooshiest cheeks EVER. She also vlogs and recently joined our diverse team at World Moms Blog! Two things I recently discovered about Carri – she’s tall (could not tell from all those vlogs) and she rides horses. That’s the beauty of blogging and making friends online – they constantly surprise you.
I love this girl.
1. When and why did you start blogging?
I started blogging a year ago this month! The idea came to me when a coworker suggested I write a journal so I’d remember Blake’s antics. My first thought was, A journal? Who writes in those anymore?! The computer has ruined my handwriting as well as my spelling, and I didn’t want to type out pages of Word documents, so I signed up for a free blog on Pop Sugar.
To make a long story short, I went from Pop Sugar to Blogger and then finally to WordPress. I’m here to stay, you guys!
2. What do you love most about blogging?
I love the sense of community. I love that there are other women like me, all over the world, who are trying to find the balance between mom, wife, friend, sister and daughter.
3. Who is your favorite blogger ever?
I have many favorite bloggers for many different reasons, and even though you only ask for one, I’m giving you three. OK, four. I’m a rule breaker like that.
First is Sandra at Absolutely Narcissism. I absolutely adore her because she’s hilarious and she’s real. If I ever met Sandra in person, I know we’d have the best time making vagina jokes, cat calling (barely legal) hot boys and shopping for whore boots together.
Second is Kim at All Work and No Play Make Mommy Go Something Something. I was immediately drawn to her blog because I saw myself in her. She was deep in her postpartum depression at the time and I really admired the courage it took to put it all out there. She’s fun and witty, yet she has a way of expressing her feelings with great detail. I love that I can go to her blog one day and read about farts, and then come back the next day and read about bipolar disorder.
Third is Jenny at The Bloggess. I’m sure I don’t have to explain why. She’s awesome. And? Like me, she suffers from anxiety which makes her totally relatable. Somehow she makes it seem a lot cooler than I do.
Fourth is Jane Pratt, who is not so much a blogger, but more of a no holds barred, boundary breaking editor. She was the founding editor of Sassy and Jane magazines and I’ve always admired her ability to speak her mind without apologies. She just recently started a new website, which I’m a frequent reader of.
4. Is there a post you regret publishing?
Nope. I don’t believe in the word “regret”, as I tend to see things as a learning experience. I recently wrote a post for Mama Kat’s Writer’s Workshop titled Confusion, and I have to admit that I was a little bit worried when I published it. That is the only time I have ever publicly talked about that time in my life and I’m not sure I will visit that subject again. It’s a very taboo subject and it is still, after all these years, considered a dark time for my family. However, the support I received after publishing it was nothing short of amazing.
5. What do you love most about being a Mom?
I love a lot of things but most of all, being a mom has helped my wounds heal.
6. What’s your favorite time of the day?
Nap time. No, I’m not kidding.
7. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
This is going to sound really stupid, but I don’t want to go anywhere. It’s true! My favorite vacation activity is going waterskiing. Next year, we plan on renting a house boat on Lake Mead (outside of Vegas) to spend a week waterskiing, BBQing, drinking and just hanging out. That’s my idea of a good time.
8. What could you eat every single day?
9. Favorite season and why.
Summer. Because waterskiing, BBQing, drinking and hanging out is much better while in the sun.
10. One word to describe you.
11. You’ve recently joined World Moms Blog as a contributor. Are more writing gigs like this in the future for you?
I hope so! (Hello, Jane? Are you reading this?)
12. You’re an awesome tweep and bloggy friend, AND you have a toddler. How do you balance your time between being a mom and a blogger?
Since I’ve become a stay-at-home mom, my Twitter time has gone up tenfold!
Seriously though, I utilize nap time and bed time to the max, and now that my dad is retiring I will have even MORE time to Tweet! Hooray!
Thank you dear friend, for being here today.
