Life Lessons: The Random Edition

posted in: Life, Life’s Lessons, List of 10 0 comments

Instead of a Gratitude list this week, I thought it’d be fun to link up with Rach and Sara for Life’s Lessons.

1. Birthday weeks are fun and birthday week on your blog is even more so. Where else can you get your friends to write your blog for you AND be treated special for a week?

2. Bloggy and Twitter friends have been super fun and supportive this week, where I’ve gone from being totally happy to extremely stabby.

3. Afternoon naps are GOLD. For me, I mean.

4. Having said that, I can function remarkably well on 4 hours sleep.

5. I’ve been back in the kitchen in full swing for 3 weeks, and realized I really DO like cooking and I absolutely love baking.

6. I’m also enjoying menu planning for the week. Who knew?

7. My almost-20 month old son has turned up the dial on talking. He’s talking up a storm and picking up new words fast.

8. He’s also realizing I mean business when I say no.

9. I say no a lot. I must learn to offer alternatives instead.

10. Life is good. Really good.

Life With Baby Donut

What life’s lessons have you learnt this week?

The no thing is a big milestone! Until they get it, I think us mamas can be pretty helpless!

Thank goodness, I was beginning to think he was NEVER going to learn when I mean no.

  • August 21, 2011 Jamie

I say no a lot too. I TRY to offer choices instead or start with a yes but – doesn’t always work. But at least we’re trying!

Yes, the conscious effort to say yes or offer an alternative is at least better than just outright no!

  • August 21, 2011 Robin

Yay, I’m so glad! Are you sad your birthday week is over?

And I think you’re going to have to post meal plans, please. 🙂

Yes, a little sad. But there’s always next year!!

A meal plans post? Hmmm….we’ll see!

I enjoyed your life lessons! Hmm, this week I learned that I’m tougher than I thought I was – and I like it!

Oh, this is an awesome list of randomness.

I didn’t realize our sons were so close in age. My 21 month-old is picking up words quickly, as well. He waits a really, really long time to get started, but it’s pretty cool to see him catch up.

    Happy Birthday, Mama!

What an absolutely lovely blog post! I enjoyed your birthday week – it was lovely to meet some of your blog friends!

I’m also THRILLED to see you’re enjoying your time back in the kitchen (you know me). Menu planning is one of my favorite times of the week!

The life lesson I re-learned this week – after being in Disney is this: No matter how wonderful it is to travel, there’s no place like home.

Ah yes, home sweet home. 🙂

  • August 21, 2011 mom2kiddos

Such a happy list…compared to mine. I miss my afternoon naps, terribly and I don’t think I can function with 4 hours of sleep. Great to know Monkey’s picking up words fast. When they start, they won’t stop. You’ll be getting a lot of “What’s this?” soon enough.

Yay! I’m so glad you had a great week! That’s awesome your little boy is talking more. I can’t wait to see some of his own Vlogs! I love cooking and baking, too, and I miss doing more of it but my girls usually don’t eat what I cook for them and then it becomes a lot of leftovers for just me. I’ll be so glad when my husband is home to share meals with him. I have your recipes bookmarked so I can try them out when he gets home!

I wish I had a nap today…for some reason little boy is not napping today and waking up tonight with gas. I know he doesn’t want to be up, but literally when I go to pick him he is farting. Poor guy! Happy birthday week to you!

Hey Girlfriend! Did I miss your Birthday? Can I just wish you a happy SLIGHTLY belated! I was out of town! Hope it was fabulous!! You deserve all sorts of fabulosity!

This week I learned to BREATHE! Sounds silly, right? I think I had forgotten how with all of the chaos that is my life. While away, I was able to take many, many, deep relaxing breaths and let go of life’s stress (at least temporarily) I hope I don’t forget how to breathe now that I’m home again!

Happy Belated Birthday! It sounds like you had a wonderful week. Everyone should have a birthday week or at least moms should.

Don’t worry about the no too much. I used a lot of no’s when my girls were small and they have all made it to teenagers without being jailed and surprisingly they all like me. So…I guess my no’s weren’t that bad after all.

And take those naps! Sleep is good for the soul and the brain.
