I adore today’s Guest Star. She’s funny, sexy, modest (despite her blog name), a terrific writer and an awesome supportive blogger. Her blog is so huge, people clamor to be the first to comment. Yet she makes time to go around reading blogs, making awesome comments. She has a big heart, people. Sandra of Absolutely Narcissism is here today and I am so thrilled and honored.
If you haven’t read her blog, what? Where have you been? That’s alright, that’s what I am here for. To point you in the right direction.
She never fails to make me laugh, like in this post about her husband’s ‘mistress’.
I cracked up again at this one about her son and an emergency room incident.
And only Sandra can write a post about boob poppng out during yoga so darn funny.
She also vlogged!
I asked Sandra to guest post for me months ago and when she finally said yes, I was over the moon. And then she said, I want to write an ode to you!
What a sweet, sweet thing to do.
Take it away, Sandra. *blush*
An Ode to Alison
One day appeared on my blog, a very sweet comment, not unlike many others, something along the lines of, “You are the funniest, most hysterical blogger in the universe! You are even BETTER than the Bloggess!”
…ok, that’s maybe a slight exaggeration…
…what? A girl can dream… or have delusions of grandeur…whatev…
No, the comment was friendly and supportive.
And the blogger who had left the comment was Alison.
I returned the comment by going to read this blogger’s latest post, and was rewarded by reading a witty, charming woman writing about a very relatable issue.
No, no, fear not, this wasn’t a post describing Alison’s fetishes.
It was about Alison’s breastfed baby who had recently discovered the fine art of nibbling.
The post went on to thank all of those who had given her suggestions on how to deal with this common situation that breastfeeding mothers have to deal with all over the world.
What is most striking about Alison is not so much that she comments back consistently (and it’s almost scary how quickly she does! I suspect she’s Nosferatu, and doesn’t actually sleep. Ever.)
But it’s the fact that when I go on Twitter, there she is tweeting, retweeting, interacting, and encouraging.
Everywhere I go in the blogosphere, Alison has already been there, with her friendly words of encouragement and praise.
She is one of those people that you just know you would meet and IMMEDIATELY feel like you’ve known your entire life.
She’s positive, upbeat, kind, but most importantly she’s authentic.
So to Alison, I have this message: Don’t unplug ever again. You send us all into “Alison Withdrawal.”
Ok, and without further ado, here is the Q&A you’ve all been waiting for….
…what? You didn’t think this was going to be ALL about Alison, did you?
I have feelings too, ya know.
(I ask Sandra burning questions!)
1. Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging because I’ve always loved to write. I’m a nursing student, and unfortunately, in my faculty, there is a lot of hands-on, and not very much opportunity to write creatively. Blogging fills that need. Plus I get to brag, like all the time, which is not unpleasant.
2. What do you love most about blogging?
In order to blog, you need blog fodder. You never know when inspiration is going to strike, and when you’re going to be hit smack in the middle of the face with that “I could totally blog about this!” thought. I love how blogging obliges me to observe the world around. Before I blogged, never would I have looked at some guy in the park, whipping out his ding dong to pee on a tree, and thought, “Where’s my camera? Where’s my camera?”
3. Who is your favorite blogger ever?
I’ve been asked this a lot and I always reply the same thing. I love Poppy at Funny or Snot. I have a ton more. A ton. But Poppy was my first bloggy friend, and she writes with such facility and humour, I can’t help but always be, not only in awe of her writing talent, but she’s left me laughing till I’ve cried, on more than one occasion.
4. Is there a post you regret publishing?
Yes. A couple. In one in particular, I had written about a very boring lunch date I had had with my husband. I had meant for it to be funny, but it came out sounding like I needed marriage counselling. Instead of making people laugh, I was getting a lot of sympathy comments. I deleted it.
5. You have four gorgeous children – what do you love most about being a Mom?
I love seeing life through the eyes of my children. Life is always funny when you’re a kid. Many of my posts are a result of one of them doing something completely inappropriate like mooning their grandmother, then saying to me, “Mom, you should blog about this.”
6. What’s your favorite time of the day?
Nighttime. When the house is quiet and I no longer have anyone but myself to look after.
7. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Anywhere with a beach. I am a sun worshipper, as my wrinkly hands will attest to.
8. What could you eat every single day?
9. Favorite season and why.
Summer. Sun. Surf. Wrinkly hands.
10.One word to describe you.
11. You are a hot Mama, as evidenced by some *ahem* revealing pictures on your blog. How do you get and maintain that figure?
I work out and eat a specific diet.
12. You are such a terrific writer, always bringing the funny and making us all laugh and love you. Any advice for us wannabe writers?
Just stay true to yourself and don’t try to be anybody else.
