Gratitude #9

posted in: Attitude of Gratitude, Food, List of 10, Lists, Toddler 0 comments

I’m doing this a little differently this week as I’m linking up with The Good Life for Monday Listicles, and the list is: 10 words you could live without. Okay, it’s Sunday, but whatevs. As usual, I’ll be linking up with my inspiration for this list, Genie In A Blog for her weekly Attitude of Gratitude post.

This should be interesting.

    1. Sale. Β I am grateful that we can afford what we need. And I really don’t need that 50th pair of shoes just because it’s on sale. My life would be a lot easier if this word ceased to exist all together!
    2. Statistics. Most, if not all bloggers, tend to get obsessed with statistics. How many hits on what post, how many tweets and retweets, how many followers blah blah blah. I am grateful for the readers I have. All 20 of you. Truly. I don’t need stats, I don’t want it!

  1. Liver.Β I cannot eat liver. Or any parts of an animal that are not just plain meat. I am grateful I can choose daily what I want to eat (or not).
  2. Error. Do you fear/ hate seeing this word pop up on your screen? When you’re fiddling with coding, or writing a post and click something and poof! “Error”. I could live without it. I am grateful that WordPress has given me no problems so far. I am grateful I have WordPress goddesses to call upon in my time of need! (Yes, that’s you Jessica and Kim)
  3. No. My toddler’s current favorite word. Needless to say, I’d prefer if he just said yes all the time! However, I am grateful that he is able to convey his emotions and to verbalize his needs at his age. *proud Mama moment*
  4. Divorce. An ugly, ugly word I can go the rest of my life without hearing again. I am grateful for my husband, for our marriage, for our friendship.
  5. Broken. There is nothing nice about the word ‘broken’. Anything that is broken – object, relationship, person – it’s just not good. It’s an unhappy word. I’m grateful that everything in my life right now? Is intact.
  6. Homeless. I don’t need to explain this. I’m grateful for having a roof over my head. I’m grateful that we are moving to what I hope will be our dream home.
  7. Harry Potter. OK, this is two words and it’s technically not a word, it’s a name. But I’m grateful that the Harry Potter phenomenon is here now – I’m hoping it will have faded by the time my toddler grows up so he can’t be obsessed with it. Please, please please (yes, you are right, I am not a fan).
  8. Diet. I really don’t like this word, or the things I have to do because this word binds me to it. So being the rebel that I am, I ate these this week, and for that, I am grateful!! Aren’t macarons just gorgeous?

Β What were you grateful for this week? Do you have a list of 10 post? If so, link up with The Good Life on July 18!

I think that is a great list. Mine would be very similar if I made one. Divorce and broken are definatly top of my list and they seem to go hand in hand.

Thank you Crystal. Yes, those are just ugly, ugly words.

  • July 17, 2011 Stasha

Officially the best list I have ever read and my favourite! Totally not a Harry Potter fan either. Although the author is young enough to write something for our sons to obsess about.

You are too nice to me!!! Oh good, another non HP fan. I am going to shield my innocent son from all things Potter!

I could live without the word can’t. I go crazy when my kids say they can’t do something without even trying. I say “I will try” to them so many times. ugh.

    Love your list. xo

I need to look at the bright side or I’ll drown in darkness!

They do look a little like whoopie pies! But they’re actually smaller than they look in the picture, practically a two-bite size.

  • July 17, 2011 Jessica

Okay, at first I thought the word sale was some type of food. Clearly it’s been a long week. Thanks for the shout out in your post. Good list of things to be grateful for.

I hate to admit that I love the word SALE..and I love it even more when it involves shoes, (hanging my head in shame!)

That is a great list Alison! And I too could live without the words sale and liver. Liver…yuck! Sales just drags us in to buy more stuff we don’t need…LOL or at least at the time we think we need.

Great list, Alison. Except the Harry Potter one πŸ˜‰ My oldest is a little obsessed with him right now. We’re reading the first book together, and I have to say, it’s pretty good. He’s going to let me “borrow” all of the books after he’s done reading them.

Haha I knew I’d ruffle feathers with the Harry Potter one πŸ™‚

  • July 18, 2011 joann Mannix

I would say for me, right now, the word danger is a big one. I wish I could obliterate danger from the world. My oldest is away at college and she’s had a few situations in the past few months that almost gave me a heart attack, from scary men approaching her in dark parking lots after work to an awful incident last week where she was trapped on the interstate/a complete shutdown of all lanes, while trying to come home, until the wee hours of the morning due to a manhunt for a dangerous criminal who’d abandoned his car during a police chase. Keeping daughters safe, especially those who don’t live in the nest anymore, is one of the most exhausting things I’ve experienced in motherhood.

And I’m lukewarm about Harry Potter myself. The books were well written, but now we’re working on overkill.

You’re right – danger sucks. You just never stop worrying about your children ever, right? Hope she’s okay!!

Yes, that’s the thing about Harry Potter – TOO much of it.

  • July 18, 2011 Ostriches

This is cool! I know what you mean about statistics. I used to think I wanted MORE readers, but then I realized I am happy with the relationships, not the numbers. There’s no love in numbers you know?

Kids sure learn “No” pretty quickly don’t they? And they sure know how to use it too! I think the word sale is way overused–I think they know as soon as we hear the word, we are lured in, whether or not it is an actual bargain!
