|Tracy and her gorgeous girls: Eloise, Astrid & Esther|
One of the best things about blogging? Are the people you meet. The friends you make. The community you are welcomed into. Today, I’m really happy to have here on Guest Stars, Tracy from Sellabit Mum, someone I call a friend.
Tracy made me feel like one of the girls, right from the start. Reading her blog is my daily treat. She makes you laugh, like this post about the 10 don’ts of summer; she makes you think, in this post about the four conversations you must have with your kids; she makes you get all teary when she talks about how you’ll know when you’re a mother; and of course, she vlogs – she even rapped in this one! And she shows her amazing photography in all her posts.
And here’s Tracy, with her incredibly great answers to my very deep questions!
2. What do you love most about blogging?
Personally, I love it as a place to document our lives. I do not keep baby books or journals – this blog is my life in review. Sometimes when I get too caught up in the blogging world I feel like I lose myself and what this blog really is. It’s when I come back to why I started it, is when I love it the most and my content is better because it is real. I love the challenge to be a good writer and just be me.
3. Who is your favorite blogger ever?
I like to laugh. The person who makes me laugh with every single post and keeps me nodding throughout and also dishes me up some ‘mancake’ is Mrs. G of Derfwad Manor. She is a brilliant writer and all around good person.
4. Is there a post you regret publishing?
No. I have boundaries in my blog. I really do not blog about extended family or my marriage or personal issues. I shy away from politics and mostly religion. I am not out to change the world with my blog or create controversy. I want to make people laugh and improve my photography – neither of which I hope I would regret putting out there. You for sure will never see a naked picture of me. 😉
5. You have three beautiful children – what do you love most about being a Mom?
Thank you. What I love most about being a Mom are the little surprises it brings daily. It’s amazing how I can already completely forget about what it was like to be a kid – so the things they do and say and are are just little daily miracles of their unique life. Also, it’s kind of cool to be called mom…even though I know when they are 16 they will have to go through a horrible stage of independence and call me Tracy for awhile. Maybe I can change my name to Goddess before then so it won’t piss me off so badly.
6. What’s your favorite time of the day?
Five in the morning. I love my time in the morning by myself. This is my time to run, to drink a pot of coffee, to be in the Internet, to take 10 deep breaths before my day completely changes when I hear the sound of feet on the steps. This is my complete quiet time.
7. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Wow – this is a tough one. I’ve been pretty much everywhere I’ve ever wanted to go. I was lucky to be able to travel before kids and have seen so much of the world already. I guess I would want to plan an amazing family vacation so that I could share the world I’ve seen already with my kids.
I want to take them on safari in Africa. I want to take them to Thailand where my husband and I met. I want to show them the beauty of the people of China. I want to take them sailing in the Mediterranean and visit Turkey and the Greek Isles. I want to show them Paris and stroll and shop the small alleyways. I want to show them the beautiful history of Prague. I want to introduce them to my old friends in Amsterdam and peek in the windows of my old apartment. I want to take them to the castle in Scotland where we were married. I want to teach them to ski in Banff and then take two weeks at a dude ranch in Montana. I want to watch them surf in Hawaii and then maybe – if they are really, really good – I’ll take them to Disney World. Or I’ll let their grandparents do that.
8. What could you eat every single day?
My baby girl’s cheeks? Oh wait, like for real food? Coffee. I know that is not a proper food group – but no day will exist without coffee in it. Never.
9. Favorite season and why.
Fall for sure…..followed closely by Winter. I hate the heat. Hate it. I want it cold. I want to wear sweaters and coats and cute hats and warm Uggs. I want to go for a walk in the cold and come back to a fire and some cocoa. I always feel that you can dress warmly enough to keep out the cold – but you can never get naked enough to cool down the heat. Heat makes me crazy.
10. One word to describe you.
11. You’re the latest vlogging sensation, thanks to VlogTalk. Tell us, how do you come up with such great and funny ideas for the prompts?
Well, thank you. It has been very fun. Here’s the thing. I like funny. I like sarcasm and any conversation you have with me will probably turn into something completely ridiculous as I have a hard time keeping things serious. I love to laugh…….and to make others laugh. Writing has never been a strength of mine. I am an engineering major with a love of math and numbers who happened upon a sales job because I love to talk. So I can usually express myself better with the spoken word versus the written word. I am also awesome at spreadsheets. But can you imagine reading spreadsheets on my blog. Oy. Also, I believe for vlogging to be interesting – it needs to be something different. I hate to say it – but just watching someone talk on a vlog for three minutes makes me want to poke my eyes out. If that is all a vlog is going to do – then I’d rather see the written word. There has to be a reason for the vlog. Entertain me, dammit.
12. You take some incredible photos – any tips for us wannabe photographers?
If you want to take good pictures – you need to be in control of how you are taking them. Whether you have a digital point and shoot or a fancy DSLR – learn to use your settings in manual mode to control your photo capture. Also, turn off your damn flash. That can make all the difference in the world. Oh, and try not to pose your kids – the best pictures are the ones where they are just being kids and you are capturing their everyday – not their “sit here and say cheese.” That is a lesson that I still need help on.
