Today I’m really excited to introduce my second guest in my Guest Star series, Ilana from Mommy Shorts!
Without further ado, here is Ilana being grilled by me!
1. Why did you start blogging?
I started for variety of reasons. The main one being I wanted a place that I could freely write about my experiences as a mom and post pictures of my baby girl without annoying all of my Facebook friends.
2. What do you like most about blogging?
It’s a creative outlet for me. I work in advertising, so much of what I do is come up with creative ideas for companies. It’s so much fun to finally have a place to be creative for myself. Also, I’m an art director so the blog is really the first time I am exploring writing. The humorous tone was a surprise to a lot of people including myself.
3. Who is your favorite blogger ever?
The only two blogs I read before I started blogging were Gawker and Design Sponge. I read them daily for about five years. I think Mommy Shorts was inspired by a combination of their formats. Short pop culture based humor coupled with pretty pictures. In a “parenting” package of course. Since I’ve been blogging, I’ve discovered a ton of great bloggers— I can’t possibly list all of them.
4. Is there a post you regret publishing?
I published a guest post on another blog about my mother-in-law giving my baby girl a hideously fancy dress (complete with crinoline and golden pantaloons) to wear to her first birthday party. I thought my MIL would never see it because I didn’t mention it on my blog. But I made the mistake of “liking” the post on the other blog’s Facebook fanpage and she found it within the same day. I was terrified of what she would say and that my husband would kill me. Thankfully, my MIL has an amazing sense of humor (who knew?). And then to top it off, when I put the baby in the dress, she couldn’t crawl with all the crinoline and walked for the very first time. Got a whole new post out of it: Pantaloons of Irony
5. You’re Mom to Mazzy – what do you love most about being a Mom?
Oh, there are so many things. I love the constant discovery of who they are as a person. I love how you see and appreciate life through their eyes and everything becomes new again. I love the hugs and the snuggles. I love seeing her develop new tricks even though she consistently shuts down when I try to get her to perform them for my friends. And I love keeping her out too late and then carrying her asleep on my shoulder from the car to her bed. For some reason, those late night moments really make me feel like a mom.
6. What’s your favorite time of the day?
7:30pm— bedtime. I know that seems to contradict everything I just said but come on— as awesome as parenting is, show me a mom who doesn’t breathe a sigh of relief when the kids go to sleep.
7. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I have an urge to move. I’ve lived in NY my whole life but I would love the experience of packing everything up and trying someplace new. I’d pick London but the weather would depress the crap out of my husband. He’d pick Miami but the humidity would destroy both my hair and my will to live. So we’ll probably stay in NYC. But Iceland is on the top of my “Vacations We’ll Probably Never Take” list.
8. If you could be a celebrity for a day, who would it be and why?
I know Tina Fey is the obvious answer but it’s true. I wish I knew how much I liked writing sooner. I might have pursued a career in television. Although maybe she’s the celebrity I’d most like to be. A day in her life is probably not that thrilling. For the day, I’ll be Lady Gaga. I’d love an excuse to wear Elmo-kill as a jacket.
9. If your life was made into a movie, who would play you and why?
People have been telling me I look like Jennifer Aniston for the past fifteen years. But if she played me then I’d be in an awful romantic comedy where the two leads had no physical chemistry. So… Angelina?
10. What could you eat every single day?
Bread and butter with a side of coffee ice cream.
11. One word to describe you.
One word? Really? Hmmm…. HUH. How bout…Indecisive?
12. You have caption contests on you blog. Caption this!
OH GOD. Is this a cry for help? Should I be calling some sort of hotline on your behalf?
[Editor’s note: Hahahaha! This was taken at a theme party by some very bored people, so don’t worry, I am still sane:]
I’m going with… “Elmo after one too many tequilas.”
