What are you reading?

I harbor hopes that my Monkey will turn out to be a reader like me. I tried reading to him when he was little. At 4 months, he frowned at the pictures in the book and would lose interest in 10 seconds. At 6 to 8 months, all he did with books was try to eat them. From 9 months, he would maybe listen to a story for 5 seconds. Only after he turned 1 did he show any interest in books as books. His favorite is a tabbed book, My First Book of Learning by Joanna Bickwell. He loves turning the pages and pointing at the pictures as I say the words to him.
I think it’s time to build that library of children’s books. These are my picks.
The BFG by Roald Dahl
Roald Dahl is one of my favorite authors. I love his children’s books, short stories and his autobiographies. The BFG is a story of a Big Friendly Giant who spirits a child to a land of giants.

Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne
But of course!

The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss
A classic about a cat and his hat and his shenanigans. Love the illustrations too.

Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
It’s about a, er, caterpillar. Who eats his way from small caterpillar to big fat caterpillar.
Goodnight Moon by Margaret Brown
A classic bedtime story. Pajama’ed rabbit says goodnight to everything in his room as a delaying tactic. Sound familiar?
I’m aware I’ve probably left out hundreds of very good children’s books, but this is just a start.
Do you have any good books to recommend?
